Pre-Operative Information

Pre-Operative Information – Preparing For Your Procedure

A nurse will contact you the confirm your appointment time. You are expected to be at the Center at least 60 minutes before your scheduled procedure time, unless otherwise instructed. You may be able to complete some or all of the paperwork in advance and send these to the Center to help expedite your check-in process.

All patients must register at the Center on the day of their procedure. Please bring with you all paperwork your physician may have given you, such as lab results, x-ray films, EKG, etc.

Additionally, you will also be asked to provide your insurance card along with photo identification. Further, if you are responsible for any co-payments or deductibles, please bring payment with you.

TESTS PRIOR TO AND THE DAY OF PROCEDURE

If your physician orders lab tests to be completed before your procedure, you will need to arrange for them to be performed at your primary care physician’s office or an outside laboratory approved by your insurance company. Our Center does not perform these tests. A pregnancy test will be performed on all women of child-bearing age on the day of their procedure.

FOOD

We recommend drinking plenty of fluids the evening before your procedure. Do not eat or drink anything after midnight the day before your procedure unless you are specifically told to do so by your surgeon or anesthesiologist. Please do not eat or drink, smoke, or chew tobacco after midnight the night before your scheduled procedure. This includes candy, mints, and gum. Do not drink alcoholic beverages the night before your procedure. Failure to follow these instructions may result in the cancellation of your procedure.

MEDICATIONS

Bring a list of any medications you may currently be taking. Check with your physician regarding which medications you may take on the day of your procedure.  On the day of the procedure, we recommend that you take your normal complement of medicines (with a sip of water) except for blood thinners and insulin.

DRESS

Please wear comfortable, loose clothing on the day of your procedure.

Please do not wear nail polish, makeup, lotion, or jewelry on the day of your procedure.   Leave all valuables at home as the Center is not responsible for any lost or misplaced items.

TRANSPORTATION

We require that you arrange for a Responsible Adult Companion (RAC) to drive you to and from the Center. Once you reach the recovery room, pick-up instructions will be given to your RAC. The staff will notify them once the patient reaches the recovery room and then they will be able to pick you up at Cypress Ambulatory Surgery Center Patient Pick-up Area. The effects of the anesthesia and your procedure will prohibit you from driving. Someone should also plan to stay with you for the first 12 hours after your procedure. For your safety, if you are unable to make arrangements for a responsible adult to drive you home and stay with you, your procedure will be canceled or rescheduled.
